| Shaped like a butterfly and originally named "island of beautiful waters" by the Caraïbe Indians, due to its many rivers and waterfalls, Guadeloupe is a little piece of paradise in the French West Indies. Discovered by Columbus in 1493, and a French Overseas Department since 1946, the island is home to over 400,000 inhabitants and basks in a warm, stable climate year-round. Not the first place that comes to mind to learn a language perhaps …but the small seaside district of Sainte-Anne, where the school is located, offers not only spectacular beaches but also a rich cultural heritage and age-old traditions to explore. All over the island you'll see evidence of the strong Caribbean Creole culture, a spirited blend of French and African influences, making this sun-kissed island archipelago a real traveller's feast.
