Venice is a wonderful... place, a maze of ancient buildings with a network of canals crossed by hundreds of bridges. It is quite unique in having no motor traffic at all, yet is bustling and vibrant and modern. There are masses of tourists, yet only steps away from St.Mark's Basilica, it is possible to find quiet streets and peaceful squares where life goes on for Venetians themselves.
One must be prepared to walk a lot in order to explore, comfortable shoes essential. A map is an absolute necessity and a guide book.
I had a very nice room in the heart of the city, overlooking a canal and not far from the school. It was in the apartment of a Venetian lady who was extremely kind and helpful, and I felt most fortunate to have this truly excellent accommodation.
What I enjoyed the most about my trip was Venice! The place itself. If I had to pick out one thing it would be the Art. I did enjoy wandering about by myself, exploring, getting lost!"

"I chose Cactus because their website was clear and well organized, user friendly, and the prices seemed reasonable. The school was in a beautiful Venetian-style building adjacent to a student-friendly square. Each classroom was large and bright and featured many hints of Venetian architecture. The classes themselves were fantastic. I had about 10 people in my class, but never did I find that to be too many. The teachers were great and made sure everyone was on the same page, and were always willing to answer questions.
I stayed in a shared accomodation with various other students; as I stayed for 4 weeks, I saw a few people come and go, and it was great to have people from various countries living under the same roof."

"I chose Cactus because I had learnt about it through The Independent newspaper competition.
The school was a pleasant old building in the heart of Venice. We had two teachers each day; one was very animated and able to convey the meaning of words, instructions and grammar, the other was very "un-italian" and had a much less dynamic teaching style. However my daughter and I enjoyed the week's lessons very much and learnt a lot.
Venice is the most beautiful city and it was a pleasure and a privilege to stay there for the course. We stayed in a double room in a flat with 2 others in single rooms above us. The flat was good value for money and in a pleasant residential area.
I most enjoyed the opportunity to live in Venice, to meet other students from different countries (we were the only British in our class) and to further my Italian knowledge in such a lovely setting.

"I chose Cactus because last year's course was so good. At the school, I was probably placed at a level one too high for me - my own fault really - I'm not so good on the Italian translation of the verb tenses I said I had studied. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the challenge. The teachers are very good. The afternoon/evening activities were well worked out. The walks round some of the lesser known parts of Venice were a delight - led with spirit and humour by Marco. The position of the school could hardly be bettered. I stayed independently at a hotel on the Giudecca. I had a wonderful time again - I wouldn't want to pick anything out. "

The school, is a very wise choice, the teaching, teachers, and organization are first rate. They know exactly what they are doing. The host family were very hospitable too, and had a lovely flat in a very interesting area of the city. Other students I spoke to, found their host families similarly agreeable. I did get round most of Venice, and a few of the lagoon islands. Lovely place. After I finished at the school, I travelled around the Venetto for a bit and then came back, having had a fantastic time ... and yes, my Italian improved significantly!"

Das Schulgebäude liegt in einem kürzlich renovierten Palast im lebendigen Universitätsviertel Campo Santa Margherita, direkt im Herzen Venedigs. Die 1995 gegründete Schule hat 7 Unterrichtsräume und eine ganze Reihe Arbeitsräume zum selbständigen Lernen nach dem Unterricht. Abgesehen von der Tatsache, dass die Lehrer hochqualifizierte Muttersprachler sind, sprechen alle Mitarbeiter auch eine weitere Sprache neben Italienisch. Sie wenden verschiedenste Lehrmethoden an, um nicht nur allein die linguistische Seite sondern auch die vielen Aspekte der italienischen Kultur abzudecken und so die Lernerfahrung der Teilnehmer um die Erfahrung der Kultur eines fremden Landes zu bereichern.
Ausflüge und Sehenswürdigkeiten
Venedig hat 3 Hauptkanäle, aber Sie sollten damit beginnen, auf Vaporetto Nr.1 aufzuspringen, den Canale Grande hinab, das hiesige Äquivalent zu Doppeldeckerbussen und Kings Road. Eine große Attraktion, die man nich verpassen sollte, ist der Piazza San Marco, zu Deutsch Markusplatz, mit seiner atemberaubenden Basilica aus dem 11. Jahrhundert. Aber eigentlich findet man nur abseits der Touristenrouten Venedigs wirklich zauberhafte, gewundene Gassen, die zu noch mehr gothischen Kirchen und einer Reihe von Märkten, Glasmachern und ruhigen, sonnengefluteten Plätzen führen - perfekte Orte (und wesentlich freundlicher zum Portemonaie sind sie auch) für einen wohlverdienten Stop im Café.
Jeder Teilnehmer kann an folgenden Aktivitäten teilnehmen, die monatlich von der Schule angeboten werden. Hier ist ein Beispiel für ein monatliches Programm:

- Gang über den Rialto Fischmarkt
- Weinprobe in einer örtlichen Weinbar

- Wanderausflug, um veneuianische Boote zu sehen
- Kurs in traditionell venezianischem Kochen
- Tour durch das jüdische Ghetto

The summer months can get very warm in Venice. The best seasons are Spring and Autumn (April/May and Sept/Oct)

Most activities are free of charge. Those for which a fee will need to be collected are indicated in the course details.
The school organizes free activities every afternoon (although a few of the activities require a small transportation or entrance fee). These can be walks in some highlight spots of Venice or visits to importants churces or monuments. The school also organizes visits to the fish market, traditional Venetian bars, mask labs etc...,trips to Treviso, Vicenza and other important cities around Venice, bike trips at Lido, S. Erasmo and so on. At school we propose the vision of italian movies or listening to Italian music, historical and lessons, grammatical labs, concerts, wine tasting, parties on our terrace and discussion on certain topics.

Bei einer Gastfamilie zu wohnen ist ohne Zweifel einer der besten Wege Ihre Sprachkenntnisse zu verbessern und gleichzeitig das Land und die Kultur kennen zu lernen. Ihre Gastgeber sprechen möglicherweise nicht Ihre Muttersprache, aber genau das ist ein Teil des Lernprozesses – und es macht Spaß! Alle Gastfamilien werden mit sehr viel Sorgfalt ausgewählt und es wird darauf geachtet, dass sie möglichst in der Nähe der Schule wohnen. So können Sie morgens entweder zu Fuß oder aber mit dem Bus zum Unterricht gelangen. Sie wohnen in der Regel in einem Einzelzimmer und die Familie versorgt Sie mit Mahlzeiten (nur Frühstück, Halb – oder Vollpension). Die meisten Familien können sich bei der Zubereitung der Mahlzeiten auch besonderen Bedürfnissen Ihrer Gäste (Vegetarier, Diabetiker etc.) anpassen. Wenn Sie aus irgendwelchen Gründen nicht zu Hause essen möchten, lassen Sie es Ihre Gastgeber bitte im Voraus wissen. In den meisten Familie werden Ihnen Bettwäsche und Handtücher zur Verfügung gestellt und Sie können einmal in der Woche Ihre Wäsche waschen. Damit Sie auch in der Gastfamilie Ihre Flexibilität haben, werden Sie einen Haustürschlüssel bekommen, so dass Sie kommen und gehen können, wie es Ihnen beliebt. Es ist eine wunderbare Erfahrung bei einer Familie in einem fremden Land und in einer anderen Kultur zu wohnen, aber Sie sollten auch die Bedürfnisse Ihrer Gastgeber respektieren. Und vielleicht bringen Sie auch Bilder von Ihrer Familie oder Freunden mit, so dass Sie der Familie etwas von Ihrem Leben berichten können.
Der Preis den Sie hier sehen ist der guenstigste erhältliche Preis - da sich aber in Venedig die Unterkunftssituation ständig ändert kann der Preis unter Umständen ein wenig höher liegen als hier angegeben. Wir werden Ihnen bei ihrer Buchung den Preis bestätigen (bevor Sie bezahlen!!!) In jedem Fall werden wir unser möglichstes tun, um die günstigste Unterbringung für sie zu finden, solange ein qualitativ guter Standard gewährt ist.

This type of accommodation allows you to stay in a ancient wineyard with hundreds of olive trees. It is located in the picturesque island of Giudecca, just in front of the Zattere. Here you can find some of the artistic masterpieces of Venice, such as the Redentore church and the Molino Stucky. There are frequent waterbus service links to the island and the historical centre, so it can be easily reached from Piazzale Roma and the railway station.
The cloister has 23 single rooms with view, wi fi access, use of kitchen, laundry facilities, comfortable TV rooms and meeting rooms.
