Bariloche is a picture-perfect town nestled on the southern shore
of Lake Nahuel Huapi in the foothills of the Argentinian Andes.
With verdant alpine forests, cystal blue lakes and snow-covered
peaks all around, it comes as no surprise that the town’s
primary economic activity is tourism, with visitors flocking in
year-round to enjoy the vast opportunities for trekking, skiing,
water sports, climbing and other adventure activities. The town
is also renowned for its chocolate industry, a result of European
settlement here after World War II when Italian and other migrants
brought over culinary customs from home. Yet it’s not all
about consuming fine chocolate and then burning it off on the slopes.
Bariloche is home to some of Argentina’s most advanced scientific
and technological activities, with many research and educational
projects also benefiting from its pristine natural surroundings.
