With a population of 1,6 million, Perth is the state capital of Western Australia, Australia's biggest and richest state. Located on the Indian Ocean coast, along the Swan River, the city is an outdoor sports paradise. It also enjoys some 8 hours of sunshine a day year-round - no wonder it claims to be the country's sunniest state capital and, with temperatures averaging 25 degrees in the summer, it's all the more appealing. The city centre bustles with activity and when you're not enjoying the many shopping, theatre and entertainment facilities, why not head for the river and book up some jet skiing, surf-catting or a river cruise. The sunshine city may live in relative isolation from the rest of Australia (Sydney is some 4400kms away by road) but there's certainly plenty here to keep you happy for a while.
