Havana, Cuba

If there was ever a time to go to Cuba it’s now. Basking in the Caribbean under Castro’s watchful eye, the island is opening its arms to tourism but not quite letting go…yet.

:: Welcome to Havana
The sharp crack of ice as the Havana Club hits your glass is a
sound as sweet as the sugar cane from which it's made. Mojito made,
distant drums tapping out a new salsa rhythm, this is Havana as
Hemingway knew it. And for every other soul with an adventurous
spirit and an independent mind, this is one place that needs to
be experienced.
The world heritage tag that Havana has earned may be difficult to
grasp as you wander the streets beneath the crumbling pastel façades,
but the infectious tapping of feet and swirling of hips proves there's
a lust for life that goes well beneath the surface…this Caribbean
outpost of communism is a definite for your not to be missed list.
We offer 2 different schools in Havana to cater to different needs
and budgets:
Miramar
Is a pleasant residential and commercial
district of Havana, located about 20 minutes by taxi (approx $6-$8)
from the centre of town (La Habana Vieja).
Vedado
Is a little closer towards town and it's here that
you'll find many banks and hotels as well as the main university
campus. Please note that there is only one accommodation option
at each school (as listed in the title) and that you cannot mix
schools and accommodation types. A full description of each school
and course is available by clicking on the Course & School Info
Sheet link under each course title.
Some of the highlights in Havana itself include its wonderful colonial
churches, squares and museums, colourful handicrafts markets and
second-hand book markets in La Habana Vieja (the old town). Glimpses
into Cuban history, politics and culture are all around, from the
formidable Spanish castles of El Morro and La Cabaña to revolutionary
monuments such as the Museo de la Revolución and the Memorial
José Martí, to say nothing of the Gran Teatro de La
Habana - the oldest functioning theatre in the Americas - and some
great 1950s style nightclubs. Excursions outside the city include
visits to some of Cuba's many famous beaches such as Cayo Largo
and Baracoa. And no trip to Cuba would be complete without a visit
to the charming old sugar-growing capital of Trinidad, or to Santiago
de Cuba, the birthplace of the revolution and a city rich in tradition
and culture.
