English Junior Summer Programme (Young English Studies) 10-17 (15 Lessons Per Week + Activities/Excursions) at SKOLA Juniors (London Gloucester Gate)

This course combines English classes with sightseeing, cultural visits, physical exercise and social activities appropriate to the age group. Lessons and activities both provide opportunities for learning and English practice in a happy and secure international environment.

English Outdoors gives students opportunities to perform learning tasks and projects under supervision outside the school, such as surveys of shops and local businesses, orienteering and scavenger hunts in Regentís Park. High ratios of staff supervision on all outside activities means that children are always safe and secure throughout the school day. The course runs Monday - Saturday and is a full day programme from 0900 to 1640.

Course Dates:

In 2014, the course opens on Monday June 9th, and closes on Sunday August 30th.
The school is closed Monday 25 August for the national holiday

Host Family Accommodation:

You can choose to add Host Family accommodation to this day course. Hosts are chosen only after a strict application process, inspection and police checks. Generally homes are in London travel zones 2 and 3 with an average journey of 30-45 minutes to school on public transport, which can be up to 60 minutes in busy periods.

Hosts are British citizens who speak English in the home. Hosts can be born in any country or be of any ethnic origin. Junior homestay accommodation includes breakfast and evening meal every day and lunch or packed lunch at weekends. Weekday lunches are included in course fees and provided at school. Accommodation is provided in single rooms, and home stay providers will assist with students' laundry. Students arrive and depart on Sundays.

The minimum age for unaccompanied children in homestay is 11 years old. Unaccompanied children younger than 14 years must use the school bus service.

Meals:

Students get a healthy morning snack and hot lunch at school Monday to Friday, as well as a packed lunch on Saturday for the full-day excursion.

Lessons:

15 hours English lessons are given each week, in international classes of maximum 15 students graded by age and English level and taught by trained teachers of English. All students are given an end of course certificate and report.

Activities:

There are three excursions every week:

Discover London destinations (half day excursions): Boat Trip from Westminster Pier, British Museum, Buckingham Palace, Covent Garden, Design Museum, Kew Gardens, London Aquarium, Old Operating Theatre, Science Museum, Tate Britain Gallery, Tate Modern and Millennium Bridge, Tower Bridge Exhibition, Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery, Westminster walking tour

Discover England Destinations (full day excursions): Brighton, Cambridge, Canterbury, Oxford, Stratford on Avon, Windsor

Supervision:

24-hour emergency telephone numbers are issued to students and their parents so that a member of staff can be contacted at any time should they encounter any problem or difficulty. Medical support is always available. The staff at school maintain very close supervision of students at all times for their safety and well-being and to ensure they derive the maximum benefit from their course.

Transport:

For peace of mind, safety and convenience you can choose the SKOLA school minibus service for your child. You can authorise a child aged 14-17 to travel on public transport, or choose the school bus service. Children under 14 cannot travel alone to school and must use the bus service or come and go with an adult. The cost is GBP 132 per week.

Parent and child:

The course gives an opportunity for both parents and children to study at the same time in central London. Parents study at SKOLA's adult school in Soho. Travel time between the school and Soho (underground or bus) is between 20 and 30 minutes, and adult courses start one hour later than junior courses. Please contact us for more details.
