Spanish General Course (20 lessons per week)
Playa del Carmen (Apartment School)
This is the most popular group course and runs throughout the year at all levels from beginners to advanced. Classes focus on the four main language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, combined with aspects of local culture. This course is recommended for those who wish to learn the language at a steady pace and attracts students of all ages and backgrounds. Classes usually take place Monday to Friday in the morning, although in high season they make take place in the afternoon.

Activities
A number of activities are available alongside this course, including the sample activities listed below. Please not these may vary and be chargeable.
Students are able to visit one of the recently nominated Seven Wonders of the World, the Chichen Itza. The famous Maya city temples of Chichen Itza are only a few hours by bus from Playa del Carmen

Host Family
All carefully selected families, providing a home away from home. This gives students the opportunity to further appreciate the beauty of Mexico and its people. Most families have rooms with their own bathroom, some with shared bathrooms. Sheets, towels, etc. are provided by the family as well as room clean-up at least twice per week. Playa del Carmen is quite small and students can walk everywhere. The average distance to the school is about 15 minutes walk.
Supplementary nights - £29 pp per night

Private Apartment
A private apartment is the ideal accommodation if you are looking for complete independence and a little more comfort during your stay. Apartments are furnished and come fully equipped with kitchen and bathroom. We offer a range of options, ranging from 1 to 2-bedroom apartments, depending on your requirements and budget. Private apartments can be located in any part of town but will be within walking distance, or a short bus ride, of the school. A deposit may be required upon arrival, and electricity and water expenses are sometimes extra. Please give us as much notice as possible if booking a private apartment.

Shared Apartment
A shared apartment gives you the opportunity to live with foreign, and/or native, students in a friendly and independent environment. Just remember that you may have to make an effort to practise the language outside class! Apartments are located within walking distance, or a short bus ride, of the school. You stay in a single room, or double room if travelling with a friend, and share the kitchen, bathroom and living area with the other students. A deposit may be required upon arrival, and bed linen is provided but towels are not. Please remember that apartments abroad, and especially those in Europe, may not be of the same standard as in your home country: they are clean but they can be small and basic. Please also note that shared apartments fill up quickly during the summer, when there tends to be a higher number of younger students.

Student Residence
The residence is located in the centre of Playa del Carmen, in a very quiet street, beside the town's main church and just two blocks (or a 5-minute walk) from the school.
The residence has three floors and a basement. The ground floor consists of the reception, an office, the kitchen and 6 bedrooms; there are a further 10 bedrooms on the first floor and the second floor has 6 bedrooms and four terraces.
All 22 bedrooms have twin beds and each bedroom has its own private bathroom. Bedrooms also have a desk, a TV, ceiling fans and air-conditioning, as well as a small fridge.
You can choose between bed and breakfast and half board (evening meal). Note that meals are served in the residence itself. If you prefer, you can have the "no meals" option, in which case you can use the fully-equipped kitchen in the residence.

The School - Playa del Carmen (Apartment School)
School facilities
This school is located in the very centre of Playa del Carmen, just two blocks from the beach and with dozens of bars, restaurants and shops nearby. The main building which houses the reception, staff room, study room and offices is a beautiful, colonial-style house, with a domed roof and terrace and a French restaurant on the ground floor. There are 10 spacious classrooms in total, all with air-conditioning, and views of the garden, which is full of exotic trees and plants. There is also a bar area in the garden where students can relax and socialise after class.
The school organises a programme of social activities including welcome cocktail parties, conversation exchange evenings with Mexican students studying English, lectures on different aspects of Mexican and Mayan culture, etc. They also organise excursions to the ancient Mayan cities of Tulum and Chichen Itza; the island of Cozumel, or to one of the region’s many nature reserves. The main difference between this school and our other school in Playa is the accommodation: here, you can stay in a self-catering apartment. Courses at this school also start every 2 weeks, rather than every Monday, and the General Course consists of 20 lessons rather than 15 or 25 lessons per week.

'' I chose Cactus because they offered courses in many countries and the website gave me the feeling that this course would be enjoyable. I thought the people at the school were very friendly and the room was very adequate.It was a very good location as it was in the centre so I did not have to travel for to go out or to go to the beach. The town was very nice but there was a lot of english speaking which meant I had to try hard a some times to practise my spanish as it was easy to get by on English. The accomodation was comforatble and had all the neccesities.
