English Combined Course (20 group + 5 individual lessons per week)
San Diego Central School

This course is ideal for combining the experience of learning the language in a group whilst at the same time receiving individual classes. The group classes in the morning encourage student interaction and help you improve your practical communication skills. The individual classes in the afternoon allow you to work on areas you may feel need extra practice or which are of particular interest to you. The students who usually take this type of course are generally highly motivated to learn as much as they can in the shortest time possible. Classes take place Monday to Friday.

Important Information

Medical insurance is now required for all students. Students will need to show their passport and proof of insurance on the first day at school, and will not be allowed to go to class otherwise. Medical insurance can be purchased at school if necessary.

A number of activities are available alongside this course, including the sample activities listed below. Please note these may vary and be chargeable.

Activities within San Diego: Zoo, Seaworld, theaters, movies, shopping, Wild Animal Park, clubs and bars, city tour, Country line dancing, soccer, pro baseball, whale watching, bowling, museums, IMAX Theatre, windsurfing, Viejas Gambling Casino, gym, aerobics, yoga, solarium, sauna, snorkelling in La Jolla Cove.
Excursions: Las Vegas and Grand Canyon, Los Angeles, San Francisco.

Host Family

Single, Breakfast + Dinner

Staying with a host family is without doubt one of the best ways to immerse yourself in the language and culture of a country. They may not speak your language but that's all part of the learning experience - and fun! All host families are carefully selected and located within walking distance, or a short bus ride, of the school. You stay in a single room and receive meals as stated (bed & breakfast, half board or full board). Most families can cater for special dietary requirements, bed linen is provided, and laundry service and towels are sometimes included. A key is given to the outside door so you can come and go as you please. If for any reason you don't wish to eat at home please just notify the family in advance. It's great to experience the different cultural aspects of living with a family, such as different food and meal times, but please respect these too. We also suggest that you take some pictures of your family, friends and home as these can act as useful props for discussion.

Student Residence

Single, No Meals

A student residence can vary in size depending on location and availability. In some cases a residence is spread over one or more floors of a large building, accommodating students of all ages and nationalities, and in others it's more of a traditional, house-type environment. Residences are usually located in the city centre and are within walking distance, or a short bus ride, of the school. You stay in a single room, or double room if travelling with a friend, and receive meals as stated if offered in your location (bed & breakfast, half board or full board). The kitchen, bathroom and living areas are shared with other students, but in selected locations you may have your own bathroom. We recommend this type of accommodation if you're looking for independence whilst staying in a truly international environment.

The School - San Diego Central

The school is located in a modern high-rise building right in the heart of downtown San Diego. It is just a short walk from Horton Plaza (one of the city's main shopping districts), and the historic Gaslamp Quarter (the pride of downtown with museums, international restaurants, clubs, boutiques and theatres). The school is also within easy reach of some of the city's most prominent attractions such as Seaport Village, Sea World, the San Diego Marina and the trolley to Tijuana, Mexico.

Extra Facilities: A computer laboratory, a student information centre, a refrigerator, microwaves. All rooms and facilities are fitted for wheelchair users.

San Diego's climate is the most nearly perfect in America. It is characterized as Mediterranean-like, with warm winters and cool summers. The San Diego climate is very moderate with an average year-round high temperature of 21.7ºC. The average year-round low temperature is 13.9ºC. It is more likely to rain between November and March, otherwise it is quite dry.
