Italian Junior Summer Course (24 lessons per week) with Residence Accommodation at Lignano Summer School

The campus

The Junior centre is a fully equipped residence for a pleasant and comfortable stay: dining, leisure and activity rooms, TV lounge, a small bar and many other facilities for students to use in their free time. At the residential village there is a nursing station with a doctor in attendance 24 hours a day to deal with any medical problem. Teachers, supervisors, nursing and house staff are all resident in the centre, working as a team to ensure that every boy and girl enjoys and benefits from the course.

This summer camp is available for students who are 12 to 18 years. Students will be divided according to their age groups during the activities. There will be 3 age groups:

12 -14 and 15 -16 years – students will enjoy many sports and leisure activities offered in the programme and will be hosted in a residential centre with full board.

17-18 years - students of this group, separated from the students of the younger age groups, are hosted in a comfortable residence with full board and all the activities are tailored to their interest and wish of more independence in a very safe context.


Lessons

On arrival on Sunday, if you have some Italian knowledge, you will take a short Italian entry test so that we can place you in classes according to your level of knowledge of Italian and your age. There is no need to worry about your current level of Italian we have designed courses for students with different Italian skills from beginner to advanced.

Italian lessons involve speaking, listening, reading and writing in lively and informal small classes with no more than 12 students in a group. Our teachers are all highly qualified and are carefully selected for their experience in teaching young learners. By choosing professional and committed teachers we ensure that the lessons are effective, interesting and fun. There are classes every morning (9am-12.20pm) Monday to Saturday.

Airport transfers

Airport transfers can be arranged for extra charge.

Activities

Every evening the staff present the students various sport and leisure activities scheduled for the following day. Afternoon activities are divided into two time slots. Every day students may choose to take part in a different activity for each time slot.

Sport activities: football, soccer, basket, volleyball, tennis, beach volley, beach soccer, waterpolo, swimming, roller blade, in small groups skating along the paths of the camp or on the promenade, aerobics, acquagym

Creative activities: cooking lessons, t-shirt painting, stage design, costume making, handmade craftings etc.

Students that do not want to participate in any activity among the various offered, can relax on the beach, sunbathe and join the beach games.

Evening activities: outings in the city centre, sport matches, open air films, discos, beach parties.
There is also the possibility to do some extra activities that are not included in the price like concerts, bowling or minigolf.

All activities are strictly related to the interests and abilities of the different age groups and vary accordingly. The timetable may also be changed to meet their educational needs and to allow for adverse weather or events of special interests to Junior students.

Accommodation

Divided according to age and sex, the juniors sleep in triple rooms with private bathroom. The young guests will be sharing their room with students of different nationalities and Italian juniors of the same age residing in the centre. This will give them the opportunity to practice Italian also outside study hours. Of course, if students wish to share the room with friends it will not be a problem to arrange it. Students are expected to make their own bed, help to keep the room tidy and leave bathroom, shower and toilets clean for other users. The dorms are supervised by our staff.

Residential accommodation is available from the Sunday before commencement of the course to the Saturday after its completion. If students have difficulties in arranging flights on these days, we can make special arrangements at an additional cost according to availability of places.

Please note that the Summer School closes on Saturday 30th July.



Meals

All meals are served at the residence restaurant. From the time our young guests wake up they will enjoy excellent Italian cooking. Everyday we provide 3 hot buffet meals. Students can help themselves to a full continental breakfast, lunch and dinner and in the afternoon they will enjoy a snack. When students are going on a full day excursion, they will be given a packed lunch of sandwiches, fruit and drink.

Important Information

Residential accommodation is available from the Sunday before start of the course to the Saturday after its completion. Price includes: All tuition & teaching materials, full-board accommodation, one excursion per week, full afternoon and evening activity programme.

Age Groups

Students will be divided in groups according to their age within the following programmes:

Junior programme - for students aged 10 – 11 years activities will be related to students’ age, under strict control all the day round: children will be always accompanied in their movements. Besides the weekend excursion only 3 activities out of the village are foreseen: a visit to a shopping centre, a funfair evening, and a walk along the promenade. Lights out no later than 10 p.m.
The school's foresee a tutor/group leader for every 10 students.

Teenager programme - for students aged 12 – 14 years activities will be tailored to students’ age, under strict control all the day round: youngsters will be accompanied even within the resort, except in case of proof of maturity and subsequent permission by the school's tutors. Besides the weekend excursion other activities out of the village are possible: a visit to a shopping centre, a funfair evening, a walk along the promenade, etc. On these occasions tutors will give students permission to move alone in a certain area under eye control. Lights out no later than 10.30 p.m.
The school foresees a tutor/group leader for every 15 students.

Europe programme - for students aged 15 – 16 years activities will be related to students’ age and according to their wishes and expectations, under strict control all the day round. Youngsters will be allowed to move independently in the resort, but tutors will prevent them from smoking and drinking alcohol. Besides the weekend excursion other activities out of the village are foreseen: a visit to a shopping centre, a funfair evening, a walk along the promenade, etc. On these occasions tutors will allow students to walk autonomously in a certain area, fixing several appointments to control their movements. Lights out no later than 11 p.m.
The school foresees a tutor/group leader for every 15 students.

Notes

Movements from one age group to another are subject to the authorisation of the Director of the Camp. The above grouping does not apply to the Italian Course, where students are grouped in classes according to their level of Italian after testing.

Residential Accommodation

Students sleep in triple rooms with private bathroom. The dorms are supervised by the school staff.
Rooms are available from the Sunday from 14.00 to 15.00 to Sunday at 9.00.
Luggage will be stored in a special room until the rooms are allocated for arrivals and after check-out until departure.

Bed-linen will be provided and will be changed weekly. Bath and beach towels are not provided.
Bedrooms are cleaned daily but students should make their own bed and keep their things in order. During cleaning (09.00-12.30) children are asked not to enter their rooms. They can use their rooms from 13.30 to15.00 to relax, listen to music , read, play games without disturbing those who need to rest and from 18.00 to 19.15 after the organized activities to wash and prepare for dinner.
Students are not allowed to have meals in their rooms nor are they allowed to lock the door from within or to change room without asking the staff.

Meals

Everyday the school will provide 3 hot buffet meals.

Students can help themselves to a full Italian breakfast, lunch and dinner at a centralized buffet-restaurant. Juniors, Teenagers and Europa age groups in turn are always escorted to the restaurant by the staff. The self service restaurants provide Italian and not international dishes.

The standard menu includes:

Italian Breakfast includes tea, barley coffee, milk with chocolate or plain milk with bread with butter and jam.
Lunch and Dinner students may choose from three first courses which vary during the week (pasta with different sauces, rice, tortellini, or lasagne including one dietary first course dressed only with butter or olive oil).
Students may choose from three main courses which vary during the week: two meat dishes such as steak, roast-beef, roasted, hamburger, two fish dishes at choice on Friday plus a cold dish with cold meats or cheese.
The main course will be accompanied by a choice of two vegetable dishes.
Dessert: fresh fruit or ice cream.
Drinks: Natural water

Packed lunch (2 sandwiches, a cake, a fruit, a small bottle of mineral water) is provided for full day excursions.

Activities

Sports Tennis, football, volleyball, beachvolley, swimming, basketball, skating.
It is possible to practice horseriding outside the Centre paying an extra-charge.
Creative Leisure Activities Students can take part in writing and editing the school magazine and in the theatre workshop.
Fun Leisure Activities Evening walks in town, discotheque, barbeque on the beach, beach games.
Excursions Educational visits to interesting places near Lignano. Once a week there will be a full day excursion to: Venice, Verona, Gardaland (paying an extra-charge), Trieste, Udine.

The junior centre in Lignano is part of a successful chain of schools that, since 1976, has been offering high quality Italian language tuition to foreigners. This school is a fully equipped residential centre for students aged 10-16, offering Italian language classes each morning, usually outside, and then a whole range of recreational activities during the afternoons, evenings and weekends. With facilities including a reception, tv lounge, medical clinic, restaurant, spacious classrooms and pleasant bedrooms on-site, itÂ’s then just a short walk to the sports fields, swimming pools, private beach and other amenities.

The centre is fully-supervised and both the experienced teachers and open, friendly atmosphere make for an effective and thoroughly enjoyable learning experience. Catering for beginners to advanced, the language programme covers the main language skills of reading, listening and writing, with a particular emphasis on practical conversation skills.

Students are welcomed by an orientation of the complex, a presentation of the weekly workshops and activities, and a short placement test to ensure they are placed in the correct groups according to their language level. Accommodation is provided in single sex triple rooms with private bathroom, integrating with Italian juniors of the same age residing in the centre, and three hot buffet meals and snacks are provided each dayÂ…just to ensure enough energy for all the fun to be had!

Best Time to Go

Lignano has a temperate climate, so that you can enjoy the sea from May to September and play a lot of sports all year round. The hottest month is August with an average temperature of 28°C.
