:: Client Feedback
"Portimao is a great place with some really cheap places to eat. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and had very comfortable beds. The Landlady was lovely and gave us a great welcome."
(Julie Klimpton and William Eric Klimpton - January 2009)
"The school was good and the classes were excellent. My teacher, Ana, is extremely gifted with language, especially grammar which was of a great value...
to me. There were only two students but I had great fun learning. The people at the school were very nice and accommodating.
Portimao is a wonderful small city with some of the nicest and most accommodating people I have ever met. I felt comfortable there, which I cannot say about any other place I have visited, and I have travelled quite extensively over a period of many years. I love this place and will return again at some future time.
I enjoyed mostly the people of Portugal and of course the fantastic seafood. No one can cook seafood like the Portuguese. This is high praise indeed, as I was born in Nova Scotia Canada and grew up on the ocean eating fresh seafood at least 4 days per week."
(Lowell Burke, October 2008)
"I found our tutor very pleasant and amenable and the location is excellent."
(Juliet Mills, July 2008)
"The school was adequate. The lessons were very good and the course was excellent."
(Richard Goldsbrough - June 2008)
"The classes were good and the teacher was very friendly and patient. It was a good experience and did learn from the course. Portimao was a beautiful town and the people there are generally very friendly and warm. If you wanted to stay in a small town with nice weather and beaches, then Portimao is the place to be. Staying a language in a smaller town gives you the opportunity to speak and practise the language more. The town is also close to many points of interests which made my trip more eventful."
(Carlos Lo - April 2008)
:: The School
At the school in Portimao, a charming fishing town surrounded by dreamlike beaches, you will learn to converse in Portuguese with ease. You will have the delightful experience of succeeding in breaking the language barrier during your stay in Portugal. You will overcome the dreaded shyness of asking the way to the market or inquiring about bus and train schedules. Listening to the radio and watching TV will become natural and you will be able to enter into conversation with the locals you are likely to meet in cafes and fishermen's taverns. The object of our teaching method is to ensure a rapid conversational ability in all students.The aim is to enable the student as quickly as possible to converse with the Portuguese in everyday situations, to take an active part in the life of the country. Vocabulary and grammatical structure are taught by means of actual conversational situations and with the help of useful texts.
Please note that due to the school being quite small, there aren't always enough students to make up the groups, especially in low season. Therefore, if this is the case on arrival, you will receive individual lessons, or lessons in a smaller group, at reduced hours.
The weather is moderate year-round, with extremely hot summers and a lot of sun even in the winter. Peak season extends from June to September. The tourist season in Portimao lasts from late February until November,
The school also offers lectures, sight-seeing tours and excursions to Silves, Sagres and Monchique, which enable you to get to know the country and its people even better. You can also enjoy picuresque walks, golf and tennis, boat trips, horse riding, jeep safaris and of course the stunning beach within minutes of the school.
