Cactus is a leading internet-based language training agency, and as such we are constantly looking for new academic staff, language holiday advisors, creative heads, interns, teachers & researchers. Our Head Office is located in the heart of Brighton, in beautiful offices and with a multilingual international staff. From October 2007 we also have a US office based in Manhattan, New York.

 

Entry-level Web developer(PHP/MySQL)

Cactus is a worldwide language training organisation with offices in Brighton (HQ) and an office in New York.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an entry level Web Developer to join our team at Cactus. You will be based at our Brighton office, located on North Street. The right candidate will have a genuine passion and the right attitude to join the well-established company.

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Updating existing websites, working on improving the search engine performance of our portfolio.
  • Developing and sending newsletters to clients.
  • Work closely with creative, accounts and project management staff to ensure successful rollout of projects.
  • Make relevant contribution in brainstorms, team meetings and company meetings on a technology level.
  • Contribute to company technology strategy, including the identification of tools, platforms and programming languages that may benefit the company or its clients.

Essential:

  • Full competence with Dreamweaver and knowledge of X/HTML and CSS.
  • Knowledge of PHP & MySQL
  • Knowledge of at least one of the following programming languages: .Net, C#, Java.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.

The successful candidate must be following, or have completed a relevant IT degree and have good design competence and layout skills, excellent communication skills, an interest in keeping up to date with all the latest web technologies and developments. Previous experience of developing websites is desirable. Further requirement is a genuine interest in languages.

Salary and benefits:
£18,000 – 20,000

DIRECTOR OF STUDIES

As Director of Studies at Cactus Language Training, you will be working with a wide range of freelance teachers of many languages to ensure that the language courses we deliver are of a consistently high quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teacher recruitment, induction, development and retention
  • Course design, writing and development
  • Relationship building with partner schools and corporate training departments
  • Maintaining strong academic standards across the Cactus Group

Qualifications/experience:

  • DELTA or equivalent
  • 5 years’ classroom teaching experience

CLIENT LIAISON/COURSE ADMINISTRATOR
- FOREIGN LANGUAGE EVENING COURSES UK

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Client Liasion/Course Administrator to join our team! You will be based at our Brighton office, located on North Street. The right candidate will have a genuine passion and the right attitude to join our well-established company.

You will be working on the foreign language evening courses we currently organise across the UK. We organise courses in 34 centres across the UK in over 20 languages (www.languagecoursesuk.co.uk). We have over 12000 students per year on our courses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing an excellent customer service on the phone and by email
  • Advising clients on language courses
  • Processing internet & phone bookings
  • Helping administrate language courses across the UK
  • Contributing to marketing campaigns

Qualifications/experience:

  • Considerable customer service experience
  • Supplier-side account management experience
  • GCSE level/equivalent or above
  • Computer (Word, Excel, Outlook) & web literate

Intern Positions - Available from 1-12 Months

Interns constitute a lively and cosmopolitan part of life at Cactus (please see Work Experience/Internship notes below). We have positions available on an ongoing basis, both in our UK Brighton office and our US New York office.

Positions available now from 1 to 12 months:

Admin Support to Managing Director

This support role involves working alongside the Managing Director on a number of ongoing projects. A near native level of English, both written and spoken, is required, as well as good attention to detail and proficiency in Excel. Daily tasks will involve liaising with partner schools, collecting stats and helping out in other departments or projects where needed.

Finance Department - Work Experience

A support role within the Cactus Finance Department. This is an exciting role giving the candidate an insight into how a finance department operates. You will be trained in various areas such as banking, foreign currency purchasing, sales margin reporting and debtor analysis. Your experience will culminate with an understanding of the broader financial picture of a business.

Cactus Language Support

A support role within the busy Cactus Language Sales Team.
The support role would include answering the telephone for our department and directing calls to other members of staff. We therefore require a near native level of English. Duties will also include using our in-house admin system to process orders and payments and to assist in responding to some basic customer enquiries. Daily tasks will also involve gathering data from schools, updating the website with valuable information, collecting stats and helping out in other departments or projects where needed.

Cactus Language Training Support

A support role within the busy Cactus Language Training Sales Team. The support role would include emailing clients for feedback and responding to their emails; collating feedback for the websites; collating statistics from feedback forms; sending confirmation emails to FLUK clients; printing & binding books; burning CDs; sending course materials to clients / teachers; helping to source teachers; other bits and bobs as required. You will need to have a near native level of English, good attention to detail, good written English, be proficient in Excel, intelligent & amiable.

Cactus TEFL Support

A support role within the busy Cactus Tefl Sales Team. The support role would include logging download information on a spreadsheet and creating a report and graphs at the end of each month; emailing clients who have downloaded TEFL course application forms but not yet submitted them; phoning and emailing schools to check course spaces; faxing applications; calling schools to confirm which clients have started courses, and amending the status on the backend; contacting schools for their 2007 dates & contacting potential applicants; contacting schools to find out which Taster Day clients went on to book courses. You will need to have a near native level of English

* Please note that interns working for less than 3 months will not be paid.

Paid/Unpaid Work Experience/Internships

We sometimes offer general office positions for foreign students (non-native English speakers). You may be involved in many or all areas of the business, depending on your experience. You must speak and write excellent English (Upper Intermediate or above) and be ready to work for a minimum of 2 months. If you are from outside the EU, you may be required to combine this internship with a paid English course.

Please note that interns working for less than 3 months will not be paid. For those working for longer than 3 months, you will be paid £200 per calendar month. However you will need to be able to cover your own accommodation and expenses. If we are unable to place you in our company, we may find you an alternative internship in another British company.
