Located in the southeast of Brazil, on the Costa Verde, Rio de Janeiro is a city with one of the most spectacular settings in the world. There are lush rainforests to one side, stunning mountains to another, and of course, the endless stretches of white-sand beaches and shimmering waters that make Rio a true tropical paradise. Rio is certainly easy on the eye, but its sensory delights don’t stop there – the samba beats and bright carnival colours that Rio is so famous for will fill you with that Brazilian party spirit. Of course, behind the vibrant aesthetics lie the issues of overcrowding and disparity of wealth, but sticking to the beaten path, away from the favelas, you’re unlikely to encounter any associated problems.
The Portuguese school in Rio de Janeiro is located in the business district of the city, within easy reach of tourist attractions and museums. Students of Portuguese have a choice of General, Individual and Combined courses, of various levels, which can be complemented with activities such as samba dancing and watching Portuguese language films. Accommodation is offered either in a shared apartment, or for a more authentic cultural experience, with local Brazilian host families.
