Dresden is known as one of Germany’s most artistic and cultural cities, although this not a new accolade – as far back as the 18th century Dresden was known as the ‘Florence of the north’ because of its thriving arts scene. The city was home to some beautiful baroque architecture, but a ferocious Allied firebombing campaign in February 1945 reduced much the city to rubble. Many of the palaces, buildings and churches have been successfully restored to their former glory, but there is a great deal of contrasting modern architecture too. Outside of lessons, students will be spoilt for choice for activities – Dresden still has a fantastic arts and entertainment scene, and there are plenty of tourist sights to enjoy.
The school in Dresden benefits from a superb location right in the city centre and close to all the main attractions. It offers Individual German courses for the most intensive learning and accommodation with a local German-speaking host family.
