:: Learn Spanish in Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic covers the eastern two-thirds of the island of Hispaniola (La Isla Española), the first New World colony settled by Spain. It lies between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic ocean, east of Haiti, and its population is a striking mix of black, white and mestizo. African and African-Cuban influence is deeply present in the song and dance of the island, with merengue the dominant beat and the root of many colourful festivals throughout the year. Unsurprisingly, tourism is the country's dominant industry, and it's easy to see why with its many magnificent beaches, clear, sparkling sea, fertile interior, abundant historical sites, fine colonial architecture and fascinating culture. It's not just sun, sea and sand in the Dominican Republic...but if this is all you want, it's here for you to soak up and enjoy.
