Guadalajara is the capital of the Jalisco state, and Mexico’s second largest city. It's an interesting mix of old and new, where modern skyscrapers exist alongside areas such as the Centro Histórico (Historic Center) with its wealth of colonial buildings and pretty parks and plazas. Locals from Guadalajara and the wider Jalisco region are often referred to as 'tapatios', and are responsible for a number of Mexico’s most iconic exports – tequila, mariachi music and the sombrero hat all originate from this part of Mexico, and spending time in Guadalajara will really indulge your image of traditional Mexico at its best.
