Halifax is the capital of Canada’s eastern Atlantic province of Nova Scotia, fondly nicknamed ‘Canada’s ocean playground’. With a spectacular location on one of the world’s largest natural harbours, surrounded by hills, dramatic coastline and white sand beaches, it's hardly surprising that life here revolves around the sea. Yet there is much more to Halifax than this; it is a youthful, vibrant city home to friendly, open-minded people. Halifax has many universities and colleges and as such there are many local and international students here, many of whom enjoy the city’s colourful festivals, delicious seafood and countless leisure activities.
Halifax is a popular place to learn English because it is a medium-sized, safe and welcoming city, so it is easy to get around and practise your English with the locals. The school where you study will also organise a range of activities and excursions for you to enjoy after class with the friends you meet on your course. It is easy to reach Halifax by sea, air, car and rail, so it makes a great base to explore the rest of Canada once you have finished your English course, and be sure of some wonderful memories to take home of your time in Maritime Canada.
