On the banks of the Nile and in distant view of the Pyramids lies the sprawling, hot and buzzing metropolis of Cairo. This is a city where time appears to have both stopped and moved on: shiny new cars overtake donkey-drawn carts, office blocks tower over mud-brick homes, glitzy shops compete with colourful bazaars, and crisp suits hang next to ragged tunics. It's noisy and it's crowded, but it's also fascinating and alive. With over 16 million Egyptians, Africans, Arabs and other cultures populating the bustling streets and cool temples, Cairo is also a city of festivals, ranging from the traditional and religious to the more glossy Arabic Music and International Film festivals later in the year. When you come to think of it, though, the city itself is really one big show and it's just waiting to be watched, enjoyed and experienced.
