You can't dispute Salerno's enviable geographic position. Looking out over the Bay of Salerno, with the stunning Amalfi coast extending north, Salerno enjoys a wonderful climate and magnificent sea views. Victim of southern Italy's many landslides and tremors, and unfortunate target of heavy fighting in the mid-20th century, the city has nonetheless managed to retain its buzzing medieval centre. Today many people also flock to the tree-lined, seafront promenade to take in the panoramas, open-air cafés and laid-back Italian lifestyle. As a place to mix holidays and study, this really does seem like the ideal location.
