Morocco is a country with a very mixed identity that reflects both its geographical location, and its political and social history. Although Morocco is part of the African continent, it is situated right on the northwestern tip, and is separated from the rest of Africa by the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara desert. Whilst these boundaries signify a physical division, there is no question that Morocco is very different to the rest of Africa in a cultural sense too. It could be said that the country's European-like geography and climate, and its close historical ties to Spain and France make it, in fact, more European than African, but this too would be incorrect - the almost medieval-like hustle and bustle of Morocco is a world away from most European cities and leaves you in no doubt that you are somewhere exotic and far away. One thing’s for sure in any case, love it or hate it, Morocco will blow you away with its smells, its sounds, its architecture and its awesome and varied landscapes.
