Córdoba is situated in the very heart of the part of Spain that was called 'Al Andalus' by the Moors. It is Andalusia that gives colour and atmosphere to the picture of Spain and it's here that sun, palms, tradition and flamenco dominate. As the historic capital of the Moors, and litte changed since, Córdoba is an exotic blend of Roman, Jewish, Moorish and Christian cultures, making it like no other place. It was declared a "Heritage of Mankind" by UNESCO, as was its world-famous Mezquita. And though a medieval feel is still present in its picturesque squares, stunning palaces and crooked alleys, Córdoba's charm has not been diminished by decades of tourists. Today, it is a young and modern city, with approximately 300,000 residents and some 40,000 university students all enjoying its many attractions.
