Marbella may not have the history of Granada or the charm of Seville but it does have one string to its bow when the hot Andalusian sun beats down - the beach. And we're not talking about any usual beach, we're talking about miles of uninterrupted coastline and sparkling Mediterranean water. No surprise then that Marbella has developed from a small fishing village into one of Europe's hottest resorts, with upmarket hotels and palm trees now lining the trendy seafront esplanade. Almost half way between Malaga and Gibraltar, with the glamourous marina of Puerto Banus just 5km away, this is the Costa del Sol in its full glory. But Andalucia it is, and, away from the glitz and glamour, you'll find the narrow streets, orange trees and traditional tapas bars that characterise this beautiful region of Spain.
