Kiev is the bustling capital city of Ukraine, located on the shores of the Dnepr River in the northern part of the country, close to the border with Belarus. Its location at the crossroads of Europe and Russia gives Kiev a unique identity that incorporates a real mix of cultures and, aesthetically speaking, of architecture – there are lots of pretty cobbled streets and attractive buildings in amongst the more 'functional' Soviet architecture. Kiev is also home to lots of parks, which come alive during the summer when temperatures are high and there’s sunshine aplenty. Entertainment-wise, visitors to Kiev can enjoy the city’s thriving café culture, or head to one of the many bars, restaurants or theatres – the opera house is particularly nice and plays host to a variety of shows and events.
