Located on the far north-eastern coast of Scotland, looking out over the North Sea, Aberdeen is Scotland’s third most populous city. It is situated between the mouths of two rivers – the Dee and the Don – and has enjoyed a distinct economic boom over the last three decades, largely thanks to the discovery of oil deposits offshore which have led to huge growth and to the city being nicknamed the 'Oil Capital of Europe'. The resulting quality of life, high levels of employment and abundance of skilled workers have made Aberdeen a true up-and-coming city. It has an above-average student rate, offers a vast array of cultural activities and amenities, and hosts a string of sell-out events and festivals, most notably the Aberdeen International Youth Festival and the Aberdeen Jazz Festival.
Students coming to learn English in Aberdeen can choose between a standard language course and an exam preparation course, to prepare for the Cambridge FCE or IELTS exam. Accommodation options include a student residence or a host family with meals, which provides optimum exposure to the English language and Scottish culture. There is also plenty of opportunity to practise the language outside class with the friends you meet on your course and through activities organised by the school.
