Pucon, Chile
Chile fills a narrow 1,800 mile strip between the Andes and the Pacific on South America's west coast. It also boasts some of South America's best beach resorts, and has a lively history that's seen it pass through Inca hands, colonial independence and various dictatorships.

You wouldn't really find yourself in Pucón unless you had a love of the great outdoors. With its stunning natural setting, on the southeastern shore of Lago Villarrica and in view of the impressive snow-covered Villarrica Volcano, Pucón is one big adventure playground in southern Chile. The lake provides the perfect setting for swimming and watersports, with its attractive volcanic black sand beach, and further afield there are infinite possibilities for walking to say nothing of excellent facilities for horse riding, whitewater rafting, parapenting and skiing. Back in town you can relax in one of the many cosy cafés along the main road, smell the wood fires coming from chimneys and sample some of the delicious local food on offer...after all, you'll certainly deserve it after all the day's activities.
