Birthplace of the Beatles, Liverpool will never lose its place
on the worldwide map of music, culture and legend. Situated on England's
north-western coast, on the estuary of the River Mersey, the
city was once a major port of the British Empire and, despite its
decline over recent years, still has plenty to offer visitors and
locals alike: grand architecture, art galleries, lively nightlife,
excellent shopping, the newly-renovated Albert Docks, fiercely competitive
football, the Grand National...and a whole string of festivals giving
it a year-round buzz. It's also received the honour of European
Capital of Culture in 2008. If you want to honour the Famous Four
then why not take a Beatles bus tour round the city - otherwise
landing at Liverpool's John Lennon airport will probably be as much
reminder as you need that this is one city to be experienced. |
